Thank you for standing with Street Reach and supporting our vision for a brighter, stronger Johnston County.
Meet P. For years, she was the helper, she spent decades walking the streets of Wayne County, seeking out those who were hurting and hopeless. She connected them with resources, offered them guidance, and made sure no one felt forgotten. Her work was more than a job — it was her calling. Then came the pandemic.
Like so many, P used everything she had saved just to survive. Soon after, she was diagnosed with a chronic illness that requires constant oxygen and weekly medical appointments — a condition that ended her ability to continue the work she once loved. She’d lived in the same rental home for years — until her landlord needed to sell. P began searching everywhere, applying for assistance in Johnston and Wayne Counties. She’s currently number 42 on one housing list that barely moves at all. Disability income doesn’t cover even the most modest rent in our area, and working even part-time risks losing what little assistance she receives.
Now, P is living in her car. A woman who once dedicated her life to serving others — now without a place to lay her head.
Just a few weeks ago, C graduated high school—an incredible milestone under any circumstance, but even more so when you consider that he did it without a place to call home.
Before finishing school, C found himself without stable housing. He could have easily slipped through the cracks—bouncing from couch to couch, or worse, ending up on the streets. But God had other plans.
Through the love and generosity of a few Street Reach volunteers, C now has a safe place to stay, support to navigate what’s next, and a reason to hope again. He’s gathering documents, applying to colleges, and beginning to see a future that once felt out of reach.
At our new resource center C discovered a donated keyboard. While he’s a skilled drummer, he's now teaching himself piano in honor of his late father, who once played and taught him as a little boy. The music is more than a hobby—it’s a connection to family, healing, and purpose.
C doesn’t struggle with addiction. He doesn’t have a criminal record. He’s just a young man who’s endured more than most, and who desperately needed someone to believe in him. Because someone did, he's now standing on new ground.
Not long ago, P was living in her car—alone, afraid, and carrying the weight of escaping domestic violence. Her car became her only safe place, until it broke down and even that last bit of security was gone.
That’s when the Outreach Team stepped in. We didn’t just fix her car—we saw her. We helped connect her to a shelter, which gave her a place to rest, and walked alongside her as she began to hope again.
At our resource center, P received help getting her school transcript. That transcript opened the door for her to take classes at Johnston Community College.
P is strong. She didn’t need rescuing—she needed someone to believe in her and give her encouragement. Because someone did, she’s not just surviving anymore—she’s rising.
When we first met Colton, he was struggling deeply—battling addiction, homelessness, and the weight of personal challenges. We often reminded Colton that there was a better way and when he was ready we would connect him with a recovery center. One day he reached out and asked for help, and without hesitation, we took him to a treatment center. Though it was difficult, he confronted his past, and graduated from the program. Today, he’s raising his son as a single father, building a new life for them both, free from the chains of addiction.
Teresa found herself pregnant and battling addiction, trapped in a cycle she desperately wanted to break. With the weight of her unborn child’s future on her shoulders, she knew she needed to make a change. We helped Theresa connect with her father in another state. Over the next year, Theresa worked hard to reclaim her life. Today, both Theresa and her daughter are thriving. She completed the recovery program and now lives a healthy, sober life, surrounded by the love and support of her family.
Paul's world was shattered when his son was murdered. The grief was unbearable, and in his despair, Paul turned to drugs in an attempt to numb the overwhelming pain. He lost everything he had left: his job, his home, and the support of those who cared about him. Through the support of Street Reach and with the help of individuals who refused to give up on him, Paul began to rebuild his life and started to heal, not just from the addiction, but from the deep emotional wounds of losing his son. Now, Paul has a steady job, a place to stay, and a renewed sense of purpose.
